Neurodivergent Play Group
An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Thursday, repeating until December 8, 2022
10:00 – 12:00 PM
Session 1: September 29 – December 8, 2022
Kaleidoscope Hancock’s new Neurodivergent Play Group is aimed at students aged 6-11 who are not neurotypical. ADHD, ASD, and other ND kiddos and their siblings are welcome to join us for a weekly, low-structure play group. Our goal is to create a safe space for ND children to play, learn, and develop friendships with a consistent crew of children like themselves. Each week we will aim to have an activity, but we will let students engage or not as they wish. Some activity examples are Legos, making slime, games in the gym, and walking to the playground.
A parent or guardian is expected to remain with their student during play group. This is a great time to make connections with other parents! Our ND Play Group will meet Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 in 10 weeks sessions. Each session costs $50. Kaleidoscope students who have funding available are eligible to use it to pay for the play group.
Facilitator: Meg Shaw
Meg was raised in the UP and grew up loving nature. She attended Michigan Technological University, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and Science Education and then an M.S. in Forest Ecology.
After many years teaching and many more great experiences in rural Alaska, she and her husband decided to move their family back to the Upper Peninsula. Meg has been homeschooling their 3 kids since 2020.
Meg loves to inspire students to fall in love with science and to make science visible and accessible to all learners. She enjoys photography, reading, hiking, snowshoeing, gardening, and, of course, adventures with her family — preferably with no cell service.
