During the year we plan on expanding this list to include local family-friendly resources beyond those that focus on homeschooling. We hope that this list will offer families a clear idea of the wide variety of options available to them in the Keweenaw.

  • Description: Kaleidoscope: Keweenaw Alternative Education Organization is a community organization that provides learning experiences and support for families to further their educational pursuits. We work with all interested families, whether they choose public school, private school, or homeschool, to help them access community and online educational resources.

Kaleidoscope L'Anse

  • Description: Kaledeidoscope L'Anse, in partnership with CLK Schools, offers tuition-free electives for students. Examples of classes at our L'Anse location include Cooking, Fiber & Textile Arts, Art, Sports, and Tinker Lab. The courses are taught by community experts in their field. We strive to offer quality classes that are fun and engaging, and class offerings are strongly influenced by our students' areas of interest. Our program offers a safe environment for learners and their parents to socialize, support one another, and share educational resources.


Keweenaw Homeschool Co-op 4-H Club

  • Description: We are a parent-led group of homeschoolers in the Keweenaw Peninsula who organize classes and field trips together, and share resources with one another. Our co-op was established in 2018 and became a 4-H club in 2019. We meet on Tuesdays and offer 6 and 12-week class sessions. Some classes are taught by 4-H volunteers, while others are run through local community businesses. We also offer field trips, playground days, sledding days, and other gatherings.

  • Description: The Keweenaw Family Discovery Center is a partnership with CLK schools that allows all district students and homeschoolers access to high quality learning experiences, because we believe that all children deserve the opportunity to excel, our activities are free of charge.  At the Discovery Center kids explore a wide array of hands-on programs and activities, supported by a virtual curriculum, from robotics, to dance, to art, to nature and wilderness survival. St. Augustine Catholic Homeschool Cooperative

  • The St. Augustine Catholic Homeschool Cooperative is a ministry of St. Anne's Parish in Chassell. The cooperative offers a one-day a week schedule to meet the growing interest and needs for a Catholic and Classical education option in the Copper Country. St. Augustine meets on Thursdays from 10 am to noon during the school year. Mass is available at St. Anne's at 9 am. 


  • The cooperative is open to families who embrace the mission of the co-op, regardless of religious/church affiliation. Cost to join is $50 per family for the 2019-20 school year. 

  • This year, the cooperative is offering:

    • Art (K-8th grade)

    • Science (K-8th)

    • Writing (3rd-8th)

    • Preschool

    • Nursery (provided for parents who are volunteering)

Kaleidoscope partners with The Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw 's Virtual Program and is available to all students residing within the state of Michigan. All classes in the program, the traditional school, K12 and Upper Peninsula Virtual Academy are available to all students enrolled with The Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw.
