Meet the Instructor - Amanda Knapp

If you've taken a class with Amanda, maybe you'll know some of her responses to this Q&A. But do you know her hidden talent? Read this fun Q&A with Amanda Knapp, L'Anse instructor!

What community you live in? L'Anse

What do you teach at Kaleidoscope? Cooking 1, Cooking 2, Personal Finance, and Sports. In the past I was the instructor for Speech-Drama and Military Minded.

Who’s in your family? Do you have any pets?: Phil, my husband, is my favorite. I have five babies, none of which think they are babies. Sam, Deb, Nate, Amelia, and Juliet. Budder is our hound and Skitter is our nearly invisible cat.

What was your favorite topic to learn about when you were young?

I loved girl scouts because you learned about everything. Outdoor survival, cooking, public speaking, service to the community, how to sew a button, and everything else.

What is your favorite topic to learn about now?

History. I love to know how people used to live. How they overcame obstacles and triumphed to become who we are today.

What project are you working on now that you are proud of?

I cleaned out my garage. Really, if I showed you the before and after you would be proud of me as well.

Do you have a favorite color? Which one?

I like gray. Gray clouds. Gray kittens. Gray couch. Gray geese. Gray cars. Gray hairs I added to Phil’s head.

What’s your favorite thing about teaching?

I love when a student tells me they tried something we worked on in class, at home. They beam and are so proud they made dinner, a cake, or an obstacle course.

If you could go any one place in the world, where would you go and what would you do?

I would go to Sequoia National Park to wrap my arms around a tree that has been alive for thousands of years. Admittedly, my arms would not reach around it, but it would be great to try with my family.

Everyone has one, what’s your hidden talent (something you’re great at that students may not know about)?

Solving mysteries and code breaking. I love to read old fashioned mysteries by Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I pause audiobooks with my kids and tell them who done it and how. I took a cryptography class in college that taught me to look at everything like a puzzle.

What’s your favorite food?

I think all my cooking class kids can answer this one. I love apples. They have been my favorite food since I got my first teeth. If I am at my parent’s farm in Autumn, I can pick and eat a dozen apples in a day.

Thank you Amanda, for sharing about yourself and for being part of the Kaleidoscope team!
